5 Boho Chic Styling Rules for Your Wardrobe

'Boho Chic' is the trendiest way to achieve that understated and free-spirited bohemian style that we absolutely love here at Embella. It can be tricky to pull off if you don’t know where to start. Luckily, we’re here to help with our five most important style rules to find your perfect boho chic look!

Choose your colour

When picking a colour palette, we always recommend choosing 'sister' or 'cousin' shades of the same colour to get your base. For example, if you're going for a blue look you could include turquoise, grey, sky blue, navy blue, white etc.. whereas an earthy brown colour palette would include cream, caramel, tan, maroon, mustard etc..

When mixing colours opt for one 'hero' colour to pop out of your base colour palette. Include neutrals, pastels or rich, bright colours.

Take inspiration from nature and avoid artificial, neon colours or anything overly saturated.

Be mindful of material

We're all about the cotton and linen here at Embella. Opt for natural fibres or recycled fibres where possible. Include vintage or worn denim and prints. Whether your a flower child, surfer girl or rock chick, there are perfect prints out there to show your personality!

Think about the fit of the garment too, boho luxe style is all about feeling comfortable and stylish!

We totally encourage you to mix prints! It's quite easy to achieve when you stick to the same base colour palette.

From the Top…

Loose relaxed fit tops and dresses are the way to go. Think bell sleeves, intricate prints, embroidery, v-necklines or off-shoulder and a-line skirts.

Maxi and Midi dresses are perfect year-round, layered over bottoms in the cooler months, or the perfect throw over for those beach days.

Add in a felt or straw wide-brimmed hat, a headscarf or some sunglasses for a quick beach-ready look!

…To the Toes!

Shorts, Pants and Skirts - especially Maxi Skirts are ideal. Think flared silhouettes, flowy fabrics, mixed prints, relaxed fits and embroidery.

Pair with either sandals in summer or ankle boots in winter.

Remember to Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise!

Jewellery! Layer it on and stack it up!
Of course, there is no better way to accessorise than with jewellery. Earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets are a must, but for the ultimate boho chic look add some anklets and toe rings!

Add a few more accessories to complete your look, like big sunglasses, big leather or straw bags, or printed scarves and sarongs!

If you wear make up keep it light, natural and glowy. Add a bright lip if you want an impact. Keep your manicures fresh with light colours - neutrals and white works best.

Don’t forget!! Sunscreen during summer to nourish and protect your skin! And moisturiser year-round to keep you looking fresh! Add some beachy waves to your hair for the final touch!
